This former Cistercian monastery is one of the most important art monuments in Germany. The film “The Name of the Rose” with Sean Connery was filmed here in 1985/6. Based on its European importance as one of the few almost completely preserved Cistercian abbeys, the successful film adaptation of the novel "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco has made a significant contribution to the world reputation of Eberbach Monastery. So it's no wonder that Eberbach Monastery continues to attract creative artists and producers from all over the world to this day.
