We had already done the tour in 2018. Since the participants were enthusiastic and we complied with the wishes of some interested parties, this was offered again for 2020. Because of the Corona situation, it was unclear for a long time whether we would be able to carry out the tour as planned. Fortunately, the situation had calmed down and the participants were rewarded with great impressions as there were practically no tourists around and we were able to enjoy cities like Prague without crowds in a unique atmosphere.
From the start in Bamberg we went to Pilsen. We visited the Pilsener Urquell brewery, with its unique cellar labyrinth carved into the rock, where beer is still made in the old brewing style in large wooden vats. Pilsen has much more to offer, such as the underground of Pilsen, the city under the city, the famous synagogue or the historic old town. We leave Pilsen on small country roads through Central Bohemia, past Krivoklat Castle, on to Karlstein Castle and then to Prague.
In Prague we had the day free. Prague never ceases to amaze. The city of a hundred towers, a UNESCO monument and certainly one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
We left Prague in a southerly direction and soon reached Konopiste Castle. On the way to South Bohemia we stayed overnight in Tabor with its historic center.
After just a short distance we reached Budweis, with the famous brewery and the beautiful old town. From České Budějovice we reached our idyllically located hotel on the Lipno reservoir via Český Krumlov (UNESCO World Heritage Site), with the Gothic St. Vitus Church and one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe. We returned to Bavaria along the Lipno dam and over lonely roads in the beautiful nature of the Bohemian Forest. True to the motto of this trip, our last overnight stay was in a hotel with its own brewery. Here you could deepen the topic of the trip or just relax in the swimming pool, sauna and beautiful wellness area.
