2017 Champagne

Classic car trip Champagne 2017

The spring trip of 2017 took us to Champagne. (We did the same tour again in 2019). First we went along the Rhine and through the Hunsrück to the Geyrlei suspension cable bridge (then the longest in Germany). We continued along the Moselle to Luxembourg, where we were able to visit a winery to get in the mood for Champagne. We stayed overnight in Luxembourg for the first time.

The next day we drove to Verdun, one of the most historic places in the German-French past. As the journey continued, we made a special kind of stop: a visit to a snail farm with the possibility of a tasting. Once we arrived at the hotel, we went to a local champagne cellar including a tasting before the evening meal.

The third day began with a short tour through the vineyards of Champagne and enough time to explore the city of Reims, with its many sights such as the cathedral and the car museum. In the evening, for a change, we went to Hautvillers, the birthplace of champagne with its famous abbey, for dinner.

On the way back through the French Ardennes we stopped for lunch in a nice little beer museum in a typical French small town on the Meuse before heading back home via Luxembourg and the Hunsrück.
